Is it real 1080p?
Yes. It is the same 1920 x 1080 stream YouTube plays in its own player. Nothing is upscaled and nothing is compressed again, so the file looks exactly like the video on YouTube at 1080p.
Why 1080p is sometimes missing
- The video was uploaded in lower quality. If YouTube's own player tops out at 720p, so do we.
- The video is longer than 60 minutes. HD is offered for videos up to 60 minutes. Longer ones come in 360p or 480p.
- The video is brand new. YouTube processes HD versions after the upload finishes. Try again later.
1080p or 720p?
1080p is worth it on a laptop, a monitor, a TV or when you plan to edit the clip. On a phone the difference is hard to see, and 720p files are often half the size. If space is tight, choose 720p from the main converter.
What about 4K?
We stop at 1080p. YouTube sends 1440p and 4K in VP9 or AV1, which many phones, TVs and editors can't play inside an MP4. Keeping to 1080p H.264 means the file works everywhere. For vertical videos, use Shorts to MP4.
Questions
How big is a 1080p MP4?
It depends on the video. A 10 minute video is usually between 150 and 300 MB in 1080p. The exact estimate shows next to the 1080p button before you download.
Why does the 1080p option not show for my video?
Either the video wasn't uploaded in Full HD, it is longer than 60 minutes, or YouTube hasn't finished processing the HD version yet.
Do you re-encode the video?
No. We copy YouTube's 1080p video stream and audio stream into one MP4 without compressing them again.
Can I edit the 1080p file?
Yes. The H.264 and AAC MP4 opens in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut, iMovie and other editors.
